FAQ

Common questions about using our free YouTube thumbnail downloader.

How do I use this YouTube thumbnail downloader?

Copy a YouTube video or Shorts link, paste it on the homepage and click Get Thumbnail. You’ll see all available sizes (MaxRes, SD, HQ, MQ, Default) to download.

What thumbnail sizes will I get?

Typical sizes are: default (120×90), medium/high (320×180, 480×360), standard/SD (640×480) and maxres (1280×720). Availability depends on the video.

Why does maxresdefault.jpg sometimes return 404?

Not all videos include a MaxRes image. If it’s missing, the server returns 404. Use SD/HQ/MQ in that case.

Does it work with YouTube Shorts?

Yes—most Shorts use the same endpoints as regular videos. Creator settings can affect availability.

Can I download 4K thumbnails?

There isn’t an official 4K size. The highest standard is maxres (1280×720). Some videos may lack MaxRes.

Is it legal to download YouTube thumbnails?

We fetch only public preview images. However, the image is usually copyrighted; use with permission or where legally allowed. We don’t download video or audio.

Can I use these thumbnails commercially?

Commercial use generally needs permission or a proper license from the copyright holder.

Do you host the images?

No. We create signed, time-limited links that proxy the official YouTube thumbnail endpoints briefly so you can save the file.

Do you support channel, playlist, or banner thumbnails?

This site focuses on video thumbnails. Channel/playlist images may be added later.

Do you store any data or the video URL I submit?

No — we don’t store any user data. We don’t keep URLs, thumbnails, IP addresses, or any personal information. Each request is processed on the fly and then discarded.
